You'll never believe this....
Hi everybody:  I am the proud daughter of your first skipper on the S222...George E. Porter Jr.  I sure wish I had discovered this website earlier and I might have been able to come to your reunion the first of May.  By the way that is the date of George's daughter's (my sister's) birthday.  He received word of her drowning from Admiral Nimitz AFTER he returned from a patrol.  She was only four.  My mother didn't know if he was lost on "eternal patrol" and here she had drowned. I came to a WWII submarine vets meeting in Los Vegas about 10 years ago and met one of the men on the Bluefish but most of the plank members I met were on the Sennet and it was indeed a thrill to meet them. My dad was also the "old man" on the Sennet....His favorite sub was the Bluefish on which he received the Navy Cross.  I would love to "chat" with anyone who wants to "chat" and by all means, if any of you are in the Raleigh/Durham area, I would love to see you. I have a mini sub museum in my living room, including the original bell from the S222.  I know you can't believe that....I am so proud of all of you and thank you for serving...It is incredible what you did....I am taking a Submarine History course at Duke and it is so interesting.  Keep in touch, if you will....God bless you all.....Sally
